CarMax Associates aren't just employees, they're members of their communities. We believe that supporting our neighborhoods and communities is an important part of being a corporate citizen.
Our Volunteer Program provides opportunities for CarMax Associates to make a lasting impact on their communities. Associates participate in the Volunteer Program as part of a team-building activity or individually.
Through The CarMax Foundation, a store, regional, CarMax Auto Finance, or Home Office manager can make a team-building event more rewarding. Not only does the team provide an important service to the community or organization, but the nonprofit organization is then eligible to receive a grant from The CarMax Foundation.
If an individual CarMax Associate volunteers at least 10 hours with a charitable organization, The CarMax Foundation will match their time with a donation of $10 per hour.
Volunteer spotlight

Diana Soard, a Sales Consultant at the Laurel CarMax location, has dedicated much of her free time to Success in Style, Inc. (SIS) since 2007. A graduate school professor recommended that Diana utilize her administrative nonprofit expertise and interpersonal skills by volunteering. Through her interest in Human Resources and wanting to be close to the Laurel area, she chose SIS, a nonprofit organization providing free business attire and employment coaching to women in crisis who are seeking quality careers.
SIS staff and volunteers help raise the confidence and self-esteem of women who have gone through serious struggles in their lives. SIS provides business attire, a make-up consultation, a free haircut, and guidance on how to present a professional image.
Success in Style has recently launched Project Smile, providing dental work to women who are missing teeth due to neglect or abuse. And SIS has opened a thrift store called Charity's Closet, staffed by teen volunteers learning about both philanthropy and fashion. "Working with the young volunteers of Charity's Closet is the most fun considering I am extremely fashion-challenged!" said Diana.
Diana, who began her career with CarMax in March of 2006, believes "the Matching Gifts Program is a model concept, allowing associates to give back with volunteer service and much needed funds for community organizations." Diana recently took part in the SIS Annual Black Tie Masquerade Ball and she is now preparing for the Pink Bag Lunch fashion show and networking event.
